Koffee With Karan to end with season 9; Salman Khan is first guest on October 14

Karan Johar's celebrity chat show Koffee With Karan returns on the streaming platform JioHotstar on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, for its ninth season, which is being billed as the show's last. JioHotstar confirmed on Monday, 12 October, through a teaser, that actor Salman Khan will be the first guest. In the promo, Johar tells viewers: "Darling, it's my last season of Koffee With Karan."

Koffee With Karan is one of the best-known celebrity talk shows in Indian entertainment. Its mix of gossip, rapid-fire rounds and candid answers has made clips from the show some of the most shared Bollywood content online, and remarks made on its couch have repeatedly turned into news stories in their own right. An announcement that the show is ending therefore matters to fans, to the film industry that uses it for publicity, and to the platform that carries it.

Opening the final season with Salman Khan is a deliberate choice. He is one of Hindi cinema's biggest stars, and a premiere built around him is likely to draw a large audience in its first days. For JioHotstar, a high-profile first episode helps attract new subscribers at a time when streaming services in India are competing hard for viewers and advertisers.

Streaming has also changed how such shows work. Episodes can be watched any time after release, and short clips spread across social media within hours. Each guest appearance becomes a promotion for that star's coming films, which is why studios and actors value a seat on the couch.

The decision to stop after this season raises questions the teaser does not answer: whether Johar plans a new format, whether the show could return in another form later, and which stars will appear in the closing episodes. For now, the platform has confirmed only the first guest.

Short-term: The premiere is likely to generate heavy social media discussion and clips across platforms in its first week, and speculation about the rest of the guest list will continue until JioHotstar announces it.

Long-term: The end of the show leaves a gap in the celebrity interview format in Hindi entertainment, which other hosts and platforms may try to fill.

Who is affected: Viewers and fans of the show; JioHotstar subscribers; film studios and actors who use the show to promote releases; and advertisers who buy space around popular entertainment content.
