Twin brothers from Ghana and a Hawaii woman have pleaded guilty in the US to a romance scam that took about $9 million from victims in 25 states, Germany and Austria.

A US law signed on October 20, 2026 makes dating apps warn every user messaged by an account banned for fraud, generally within 24 hours, from October 2027.

Match Group and I4C launched a romance scam campaign on Tinder and Hinge on October 21, 2026, as the apps add screenshot blocks and video selfie checks in India.
